The final chapters of our summer stories culminate in Italy where we jetted off to idyllic Amalfi with Contiki and some of our most inspirational friends in tow. First up, it’s model and body positive campaigner, Sonny. Her unfiltered and unedited photos on IG help others to love their flaws and we’re here for it…
Where does your summer story take place?
Italy – it’s everything I imagined it to be. The views are so incredible, even when I’ve already seen them and look again I’m like “oh my god” every time. It’s so beautiful.
Who are the major characters?
My family and friends.
How has travel shaped your character?
It’s made me realise that our identities are always shifting and changing. You’re never going to be the same person you were today. You’re going to experience different cultures, see different people and your view is going to change. I’ve come to learn that materialism, technology and getting likes on Instagram don’t matter in the grand scheme of things.
What's your summer/ life mantra?
You can wear and you can do anything with confidence. I think that women have been told “you can’t wear that” unless you’re a certain size or unless you’ve done this but who made those rules? Rules are meant to be broken, especially in 2018.
Describe your summer story in three words…
Lit, wild and free.
Who inspires your summer style?
Myself. And I follow a lot of Instagram-ers for inspiration, too. I like mismatched fashion and wearing dresses and skirts with trainers. I would say Jamaican culture has also influenced me to wear less clothes [laughs]. For me, I used to hate going to the beach or on holiday, I’d always be covered up and now I just wear whatever I want.
Where does the next chapter of your story take you?
After Amalfi, I’m going to Jamaica. I’m so excited; I’ve been waiting for that trip for my whole life. I’m also going to Ibiza at the weekend and will be working in New York which will bring a whole set of new challenges in itself living in a new city.
If your story could have a sequel in ten years, what would it be about?
I want to be on the cover of Vogue. You have to believe you can do something and also speak things into existence. So there you go, I’m putting it out there.
