MAKING FASHION A FORCE FOR GOOD
For people and society. We believe it’s our people that makes us what we are.Our aim is to place diversity and wellbeing at the heart of River Island culture while educating and inspiring our community to help make our world fairer and more sustainable.
Our community is always open
Underpinned by the Equality Act 2010, our aim is to be an employer that values diversity and celebrates the cultures, personalities and preferences of our people. We are proud to have a workforce that is 73% female and continue to partner with Blueprint For All and align with the British Retail Consortium's Better Jobs Diversity and Inclusion Charter to evolve our policies around equality, diversity and inclusion.

Care, Detect, Promote
As a family-owned business, supporting our colleagues and creating a culture centred on people's wellbeing is our priority. Our approach to this is holistic but mental health has been a particular focus for us. Throughout 2021 we ran a series of different events and workshops to support our Islanders in all areas of their mental health and wellbeing. We also launched our Manage With Care training programme that aims to provide line managers with the skills they need to spot the signs and symptoms of stress, create positive cultures around mental health and initiate conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

Safe and fair work for all
We are committed to protecting human rights and the dignity of everybody within our global supply chain. As members of the Ethical Trade Initiative, we work continuously to eliminate modern slavery and improve working conditions for all. Many ethical labour issues are complex but we believe significant change is possible through industry wide collaboration.

Giving back to our people
Community is everything, and we really try to support ours. We’ve been partnering with Newlife, a charity that supports families with disabled and terminally ill children, since 1991. Other key partnerships include Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, Mind, and the Princes Trust. For 2021, we want to further expand our global investment programme to support the communities who help to make our clothes.
